Eva Hemingway Awarded the 2024 Wakatipu Community Foundation Youth Community Scholarship

The Wakatipu Community Foundation are delighted to announce Eva Hemingway as the recipient of the 2024 Wakatipu Community Foundation Community Youth Scholarship

This scholarship was formerly known as the Arrowtown Autumn Festival Scholarship,  but with rising costs this year the committee were unable to commit to funding the award. CE of WCF Jennifer Belmont said “we feel so strongly about the value of this scholarship and the philanthropic behaviour it embodies that we wanted to continue. Some generous donors have donated the funds to enable us to do this, for which we are very grateful.”

This award was established to recognize and support young leaders who exemplify community spirit and contribute meaningfully to the Wakatipu region and celebrates Eva’s  dedication and contribution over many years.

Eva, as a youth advocate for community wellbeing, has been actively involved in Scouts in Arrowtown for 10 years. Over this time she has volunteered at many Whakatipu and Arrowtown events, and in particular at the Lakes District Museum for the last two years.

As well as her Scouting record, and a strong academic achievements, Eva is also a national ice skating speed champion. Her leadership, commitment to volunteering, and drive to make a positive difference represents the values of the WCF Youth Community Scholarship.

The $2500 scholarship will help to support Eva as she heads to Otago University next year to study where she hopes to become a scout leader in Dunedin and continue her community contribution.

“We are very proud to award Eva Hemingway the 2024 Community Youth Scholarship,” Jennifer said  “Eva’s commitment to our community reflects the true spirit of the Wakatipu, and we can’t wait to see the impact she will continue to make in the future.”

The Community Foundation are hoping to secure long term support for this scholarship over the next few months to enable the award to continue.
